On May 6, 2009, for the third consecutive year, Keep California Beautiful (KCB) and numerous state agencies are leading the Great American Cleanup™ effort in California. This event is made possible thanks to the efforts of very important campaign partners, including coordinated activities by Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol to collect litter and enforce load control/tarping statewide. State Parks, California Conservation Corps, the California Integrated Waste Management Board, Department of Toxic Substances Control, Department of General Services and Department of Motor Vehicles are also participating through waste reduction and recycling efforts. Non-profit and for-profit organizations, local governments and individuals across the state are also involved via creek cleanups, tree plantings, and much more. The primary goals of the event are to collect litter, save taxpayer dollars and recycle more trash – all in an effort to help make California the most beautiful and cleanest state in the nation! This event is to educate the public, state employees and legislators about what the state agency partners are doing and to encourage the public to take action in their own communities.

In the Sacramento area, Keep California Beautiful with the assistance of Electronic Recyclers International will be sponsoring two E-Waste Collection events in partnership with Department of General Services, California Integrated Waste Management Board, Department of Toxic Substances Control and the California Conservation Corps. Location one will be near the site of the press event. A second location will be available at Keep California Beautiful Offices at 8950 Cal Center Drive. Both events will be open FREE for state employees, local government employees, any governmental organization, businesses and the general public to recycle their electronic waste including computers, monitors, printers, telephones, cell phones, televisions, plasma screens, DVD players, stereos and other like electronic equipment banned from landfill disposal. Hours of operation are between 6:00 AM-5:30 PM. This is also a KCB fundraising activity to support our program efforts. Please click here for more information.
