KCB Cleanups

Keep California Beautiful supports hundreds of cleanup, recycling, and beautification events throughout the state of California annually. We provide volunteers with trash bags, gloves, flower seeds, participation badges and other volunteer incentives and thank-you's. KCB encourages individuals, civic groups, and community organizations to come together to make a difference in California's environment by organizing events within their community.

Each year, KCB participates in the Great American Cleanup™ (GAC), a massive nationwide event during March, April and May each year. Millions of volunteers conduct tens of thousands of events throughout the country. This huge effort in mobilizing volunteers and providing supplies from major sponsors is sponsored by Keep America Beautiful and Keep California Beautiful.

During the 2008 Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup™, our California community members contributed over 211,974.5 volunteer hours; removing over 2,156,332 pounds of litter and debris from California's environment along 3,463 miles of roadways, 256 miles of waterways, 86.5 miles of trails, 27.5 miles of railroad tracks and 711 acres of parks. The volunteer efforts of KCB program partners saved the state and local governments of California an estimated $4,657,079.70 while completing community improvement projects. To support this GAC effort KCB shipped purchased and donated goods including: 36,774 garbage bags, 6,734 bottles of hand sanitizer, 4,000 reusable water bottles, 9,000 reusable bags, 1,759 seed packets and volunteer incentives to nearly 200 community cleanups throughout the state.
